At Modern Diary, we take your privacy extremely seriously. Modern Diary is designed as a local-first, privacy-centric application. This Privacy Policy explains how your information is handled when you use our mobile application.

1. Information Collection & Usage

Local Storage

All your journal entries, photos, voice notes, tasks, financial records, loan entries, habits, and secure vault items are stored locally on your device. We do not collect, store, transmit, or sell your personal data to any external servers or third-party analytics services.

Optional Google Drive Sync & Backup

Modern Diary includes an optional data backup feature using Google Drive.

• If you choose to enable Google Drive backup, your data (encrypted text/JSON payload) is uploaded directly and solely to your personal Google Drive account's private AppData folder.
• No media files (images or video binaries) are uploaded during sync.
• We (the developers of Modern Diary) do not have access to your Google Drive account, your encryption keys, or your stored backups.

Device Permissions

To provide full functionality, Modern Diary requests the following Android permissions:

• Use Biometrics (USE_BIOMETRIC): Used exclusively to unlock the app or your encrypted Secure Vault locally via Fingerprint or Face ID.
• Audio Recording (RECORD_AUDIO): Used strictly when you choose to record a voice note in a journal entry. Voice recordings remain on your local device storage.
• Notifications (POST_NOTIFICATIONS, SCHEDULE_EXACT_ALARM): Used locally to send scheduled reminder notifications for your daily reflection prompts and task deadlines.
• System Overlay (SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW): Used locally to show optional prompt overlays upon device unlock.
• Internet (INTERNET): Used exclusively for optional user-initiated Google Drive sync and backup.

2. Data Security

• Your data stored in the Secure Vault is encrypted on device using Android's hardware-backed KeyStore and strong encryption standards (AES-256 / GCM).
• Backups uploaded to Google Drive are encrypted prior to transmission.
• We do not operate external database servers that hold your personal reflections, financial data, or credentials.

3. Third-Party Services & Analytics

Modern Diary does not integrate third-party ad networks, tracking SDKs, or data brokers. We do not sell your personal information.

4. Children's Privacy

Modern Diary does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under 13. Since all data remains locally on the user's device, parents and legal guardians maintain total control over device usage.
